Nm23 (Nme/NDPK/Awd) gene/protein family consists of ten members originally named after the first one identified, Nm23-H1/NDPK A, which is considered to be a metastasis suppressor gene
Besides their basic function in maintenance of the cellular NTP pool, the Nm23 proteins have several additional biochemical activities responsible for different cellular events leading, in consequence, to their involvement in major human diseases, especially cancer and cardiovascular diseases. During the last twenty years researchers working in this field meet triennially at the International Congress of the NDPK/Nm23/awd Family.
The intention is to gather all the groups and scientists interested in any of the vast number of subjects connected to NDPK/Nm23/Awd gene/protein family to recapitulate and discuss the main breakthroughs in the field.
This year we will celebrate the 10th anniversary of our conferences.
The conference is organized by Ruđer Bošković Institute, Zagreb, and sponsored by International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB).
Specific focus will be put on the following topics:
Nm23/NDPK/Awd
gen/protein structure and evolution
involvement in development of various species
interaction with specific proteins and signalling pathways
involvement in physiology and related diseases
involvement in cancer and metastasis formation
potential use in cancer diagnostics, prognostics and therapy
mammalian histidine kinases
