After reviewing the state of academic development in the field of Jewish Studies in our respective countries and disciplines, we drew up a working list of priorities for the near future. Among these were: to continue broadening the scope of shared projects in the spheres of teaching, research and publishing, and to encourage the active involvement of younger emerging scholars in such joint efforts.
Jewish Studies Winter School will be devoted to the enhancement of English-language publishing strategies and skills, with a view toward raising the professional profile of Jewish Studies in and on Central/East-Central Europe. Our assessment of the state of the field indicates that a great deal of expertise is being achieved ‘on the ground,’ but much of it results in publication in regional-language journals and co-edited volumes, thus limiting its accessibility worldwide.
The interaction among senior and emergent scholars in an intensive workshop setting will, hopefully, make further momentum possible for expanded efforts along similar lines in the future, based on active networking among the collaborating institutions.
