Former IUC Director-General, Prof. Hylke Tromp has passed away on 14 February 2021. Prof. Tromp was an IUC Director General from 1996 to 1998. He contributed to the re-building of the institution after the devastating effect of the war in the former Yugoslavia when Dubrovnik and the IUC were attacked.
Hylke Tromp studied Social and Political Sciences at the Catholic University of Nijmegen where he obtained his doctorate in 1962. He also studied at the Free University of Berlin, where later he became a Visiting Professor. Since 1964 he has been affiliated with the Polemological Institute, within the Faculty of Law, University of Groningen, where in 1976 he obtained his doctoral degree in war studies. The topic of his dissertation was political views and political behavior in international situations. In 1980 he was appointed professor of polemology. Prof. Tromp became director of the Polemological Institute, and afterward from 1996 to 1998 Director-General of Inter-University Centre Dubrovnik. He was also a member of the advisory board of the International Peace Institute (IIP) in Vienna.
Hylke Tromp is the author of a number of books and contributions on war, peace, and violence.
