Conference Description
The conference will focus generally on the role of innovation in a knowledge-based economy and society and its consequences at the global, regional and local levels.
Creation and dissemination of new knowledge, its commercialisation and human capital development have become crucial factors for economic development. The relationship between universities, R&D, businesses and government is becoming more closely interrelated. Universities are becoming more and more entrepreneurial. On the other hand business is placing increasing emphasis on educating and training its labour force and conducting its own research and development. The third partner in this relationship is government, and the resulting triangle has been described as a triple helix model, where all three institutions reinforce each other in effort to promote knowledge and innovation and to stimulate economic growth.
This new triangle of interactive actors presents a theoretical framework of modernization that introduces many new challenges to both the developed and developing worlds, like the problems of managing new types of technological change, especially their outcomes in a social context. The conference will focus on these issues in perspectives, on different "catching-up" processes in developing societies, as well as on the analysis of different models in developed societies.
