Course description:

Primary objective od the course is the exchange of current knowledge and the latest insights in multiple sclerosis (MS) pathogenesis and management and the collaborative partnership between participants from different countries. MS is a chronic, inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system which leads to disability of various degrees and has different progression rates in different patients. The availability of new and sophisticated diagnostic tools and the discovery of new treatments have made daily clinical practice even more challenging for physicians involved in MS patient management. The goal of this course is to update participants about MS pathogenesis and diagnostic criteria and to provide a comprehensive overview of past and future disease-modifying therapies. A clinical cases based approach will be used to encourage discussion and scientific exchange between participants and the panel of MS experts. Course will be organized through lectures, seminars, case reports and workshops held by the professors and teaching staff. Learning objectives are: to gain knowledge of immunological factors involved in the pathogenesis of MS; to integrate clinical, neurophysiological, and neuroimaging findings into the accurate diagnosis of MS and the exclusion of diferential diagnosis, to hear about the risks and benefits of currently available drugs for MS, to include symptomatic management into the treatment paradigm of MS management. This course is appropriate for neurologists who specialize in MS as well as other clinicians with a special interest or focus on this disease.

The course will be accredited by 4 ECTS credits. Requirements to earn those credits are interesting case presentations and final assessment.
