19 | EU SUBSTANTIVE CRIMINAL LAW AND PROTECTION OF VICTIMS

The main objective of this course is to transfer advanced knowledge and understanding of the EU Substantive Criminal Law and Protection of Victims. The course lecturers will be addressing the topics of the EU substantive criminal law in general, the approximation of laws and regulations of the Member states in the areas of trafficking in human beings and sexual exploitation of women and children, terrorism, illicit drug trafficking, protection of financial interests of the EU, money laundering, corruption and organized crime, protection of victims within the EU. In addition, students will get acquainted with the documents of the Council of Europe in the mentioned areas. That will enable them to compare different levels of protection and the interaction between Council of Europe and European Union in the field of substantive criminal law and protection of victims. Throughout the course, attention will be paid to comparative legislation and case law of the ECHR and ECJ. The course will not be restricted to law students only, but will be offered to students of political sciencies, social work studies, education and rehabilitation, police academy, etc., as well as members of the NGO sector.
