Buckminster Fuller saw IT-enabled collaboration as the way to end scarcity-induced and scarcity-inducing competition, and create the economy, politics and culture of abundance. Douglas Engelbart saw it as the way to make a quantum leap in the evolution of our businesses and institutions. By creating "a super new nervous system to upgrade our collective social organisms", Doug envisioned, we can become "collectively intelligent", and hence capable of understanding and resolving our increasingly complex issues. Collaborology is conceived as a strategic move toward realising that goal.
Technology-enabled collaboration can be expected to lead to disruptive changes in all organizational structures. What exactly does one need to know to be a competent protagonist on this emerging frontier? What technical tools does one need to master? What skills, values, and other personal and inter-personal traits does one need to acquire? Our goal is to answer these questions collaboratively, by evolving a suitable curriculum and a corresponding body of knowledge. And by developing an environment and a strategy that will enable suitable learning to expand worldwide.
