Conference description:

The Jean Monnet Seminar is organized by the Jean Monnet Chair of European Public Law, University of Zagreb - Faculty of Law, within the framework of the EU Lifelong Learning Programme. The seminar entails two parts - lectures by prominent EU law professors or members of the Court of Justice (morning sessions); and research presentations by PhD candidates and junior academics (afternoon sessions). It offers an oportunity for learning and discussing new research.

Each year the seminar covers a different broad theme, and this year the seminar will deal with challenges facing the legal profession as a consequence of EU accession. It will discuss the changing role of advocates and judges faced with the changing legal environment, as well as the emerging needs for their lifelong education. The aim is to discuss necessary adjustments for proper application of EU law, detect problems and suggest practical solutions to judges and advocates how to deal with the new legal issues. The aim is also to detect necessary changes in education for legal profession.

The Seminar is aimed at:

- doctoral students and researchers

- members of the judiciary

- junior public servants

- undergraduate and graduate students of law

Call for papers:

The organisers will be happy to welcome researchers interested in presenting a paper dealing with any aspect of the seminar topic, as well as graduate students of law, doctoral students, researchers, junior public servants and members of judiciary interested in participating. The deadline for the submission of paper proposals is 15 January 2014 and accepted candidates will be eligible to publish their papers in the Croatian Yearbook of European Law & Policy (CYELP). For those interested in participating without a paper we recommend registering as soon as possible since the number of places is limited.
