Main goal of the course is to introduce students with concepts, theoretical underpinnings, and critical arguments surrounding LGBTIQ+ individuals, using legal, sociological, and political science toolboxes. Students will focus on acquiring methods for the analysis of legal and political forces shaping the current debate on LGBTIQ+ rights, including through critical reading of public policies, strategies, declarations, court judgements, and electoral programmes, on national, European, and global level. The course will juxtapose legal/judicial and political/legislative processes linked to expanding or shrinking of LGBTIQ+ rights, but will also point to their historical complementarity and interplay in order to show the inextricable link between politics and law within societies. After completing this course students will possess a set of skills and know-how that will be of use for them both in the public and private sector, especially if they decide to work within the context of LGBTIQ+ policies and rights, through the civil sector organizations, policy watchdogs, or independent agencies.
