Conference description:

This world we are living in invites new thinking and new courses of action. ‘Systemic innovation’ might seem technical, until we realize that the key to making our world ‘sustainagble’ or ‘thrivable’, or even just to use science and technology to our true and lasting benefit, is to 1) learn how to innovate at the level of key societal institutions (governance, science, education, public informing, finance…) 2) begin to innovate – in the domain of technology, and in all other domains – based on systemic thinking and concerns. But how will this change – from innovation driven by market and linear thinking – to systemic innovation begin, realistically and practically? Douglas Engelbart proposed the answer – ‘bootstrapping’ or as Alexander put it ‘being the systems we want to see in the world’ – and that’s what this workshop is going to do. A group of international researchers working at the forefront of collaborative knowledge media will meet with systems scientists to begin to ‘bootstrap’ i.e. initiate systemical innovation in knowledge work, by re-creating conventional academic communication and co-creation practices for the systems sciences community.
