This international conference represents the integral part of dissemination activities envisaged within the project Assessment of hazardous chemical contamination in the Sava River basin, funded as a part of the NATO Science for Piece and Security (SPS) Programme (http://www.irb.hr/nato-savariver/).
The overall goal of the project was affirmation of a state-of-the-art approach for the identification of priority pollutants, serving as a key tool for scientifically-based and cost-effective management of water resources in the Republic of Croatia and other riparian countries. By joint efforts of the main project participants, Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA), and Rudjer Boskovic Institute (RBI), the Croatian leading research institute, this overall goal is being achieved by developing and applying a so-called Effects-Directed-Analysis (EDA) framework for identification of hazardous contaminants.
Therefore, through this international conference the knowledge and expertise achieved during the project will be presented to colleague researchers and potential end-users in Croatia and neighboring countries. Different aspects, ranging from environmental chemistry and toxicology to the effects directed analysis and risk assessment issues, will be covered and discussed with help and participation of internationally renowned invited speakers.
